Three pedestrians – including a young child – were hospitalized Wednesday after a woman drove into a crowd of about 20 people over an ongoing dispute, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

The woman drove into the crowd at the 500 block of Southwest 2nd Street in Pompano Beach, hitting four people, BSO spokesman Mike Jachles said.

Three were transported to the hospital, including the child who was taken by air to Broward Health Medical Center as a trauma alert, the BSO said. He is a 2-year-old boy, his aunt Linda Ann Jones said.

“The young lady got upset, got in the car, and just ran over the family – grandkids and all,” neighbor Joseph Harley said.

Jones said she is a relative of the driver, who she said has been having disputes with people in the neighborhood. Jones and other neighbors said the driver was a woman who is known as Sharoya Jones, but whose legal name is Sharoya Rucker. Rucker, 19, faces one count of attempted murder and four counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after her arrest Wednesday, online jail records showed Wednesday night.

Jachles said the driver, who had no serious injuries, fled the scene but was later arrested in an apartment two blocks away.

“This is the result of some type of ongoing altercation or dispute. It’s been going on longer than a day, and it escalated with a female driver of a Nissan driving that vehicle and striking this crowd of about 20 people that were outside of the apartment building,” Jachles said.

Before the charges against Rucker became known, Jones said she wanted her to be charged with attempted murder.

“I (wanted) to break her damn neck if I would have got to her with my messed-up knee, you know what I’m saying? But she deserves whatever she gets," she said.

Rucker is being held on no bond at the Broward County Main Jail, jail records said.
