State Road A1A reopen to traffic at Hibiscus Avenue in the town of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea after crews worked on repairs after a large cavern was discovered under the road.
The Broward Sheriff's Office was working to divert traffic, and town residents were alerted to the closure by the town's "CodeRed" system just before 9 a.m.
The road was expected to open in the afternoon.
Authorities said the cavern, which was 6 feet wide and 6 feet deep, was caused by a leaking storm drain. After the road is fixed, crews will move to fixing the drain.
