A Cooper City man is facing child abuse and battery charges after police say he ran his estranged wife off a road with his three children inside his truck.
Umar Farooq, 40, is facing three counts of child abuse, one count of domestic aggravated battery and one count of driving with a suspended license in the incident that happened at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Johnson Street Sunday afternoon, according to a Pembroke Pines Police report.
According to the report, Farooq used his Ford pickup to ram his wife, Nazia, and a male friend, off the road. The two had been riding in a much smaller Chevy Spark hatchback, and a spiked hubcap on Farooq's truck ripped open a hole on the side of the smaller car.

Farooq caused the Chevy to run off the road for approximately 100 yards, the report said. Making matters worse, Farooq's two daughters and son were riding inside the pickup at the time, placing them in danger, police said.
Nazia Farooq told NBC 6 South Florida she believes her husband may have gone into a jealous rage because he saw her male friend driving her car.

Farooq, who has at least three previous domestic violence arrests, had his bond set at more than $110,000 for his charges. He bonded out of jail soon after his hearing Monday and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.
The judge also encouraged the court to pursue a psycho-social evaluation of Farooq.
