A Jupiter man is being held on $4,900 bond Tuesday after he stole a Hertz rental car at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, drove over tire spikes and was caught on Interstate 95 with three flat tires, authorities said.
Joshua Nadelhoffer, 29, faces charges of grand theft auto, burglary of an occupied structure, reckless driving, failing to obey a police officer, driving with a suspended license, driving on an airless tire, and resisting an officer without violence, Judge Ellen Feld said as he appeared in Broward court for a bond hearing Tuesday.

On Monday at about 4:15 a.m. Nadelhoffer walked into a parking garage containing Hertz Car Rental vehicles at 600 Terminal Drive, got into a red 2013 Chevy Camaro SS, and drove it to a closed security gate without completing a rental agreement with Hertz, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in an arrest report.

The employee manning the gate would not open it for Nadelhoffer since it was apparent he was stealing the car, the report said, but he proceeded to crash the Camaro through the gate. He drove over the tire spikes, causing three tires to go flat, and fled north on I-95, where he was eventually stopped by a Fort Lauderdale Police sergeant, according to the report.

In court Feld told Nadelhoffer that if he posts bond, he could be released Tuesday, and he thanked the judge.
A representative for Nadelhoffer told the judge that he was invoking the defendant’s right to remain silent and right to counsel.
