A man was arrested for the hit-and-run that killed John Quintal, the man who was riding his bicycle along Sunset Strip in February.

Rodney Exalus Fradin was arrested after the Sunrise Police received an anonymous tip from Broward Crime Stoppers, police said Monday.

Fradin told investigators that he didn’t know anything about the accident and that he was not involved, police said.

But later Fradin told investigators that he had been driving on Sunset Strip on Super Bowl night when he looked down to read a text message.

“Mr. Fradin felt his vehicle drift off the roadway and heard a ‘clack’ noise,” a Sunrise Police statement said. “He did not stop because his license was suspended and he did not want to go to jail.”

Weeks later Fradin told police he overheard people talking about Quintal’s death on Sunset Strip. Instead of reporting the accident, Fradin got his vehicle repaired, police said.

The crash happened in the 2100 block of Sunset Strip and Sunrise Fire-Rescue pronounced Quintal dead at the scene.

Quintal was riding a chrome BMX-type bicycle that had aluminum foil in the front wheel spokes and was found damaged and lying next to him, police said.

He fled the scene, leaving behind silver paint chips and parts of a headlight, police said.

Fradin, who was released from jail Friday, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death without rendering aid, destroying, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and driving with a suspended license.
