Fort Lauderdale officials were investigating a fatal shooting early Sunday morning.
Police said the shooting happened near the intersection of Florida Avenue and West Broward Boulevard at about 4:34 a.m.
Officers responded after hearing the sound of gunshots, but while they were on their way, they saw a black 2006 BMW speeding away without the headlights on, officials said.
Suspecting the car was involved in the shooting, officers stopped it and it pulled into the parking lot of the Broward Sheriff's Office Public Safety Building at 2700 West Broward Boulevard, police said.
Officials found 26-year-old Corey Pratter inside with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead on the scene, authorities said.
Detectives said Pratter left a nearby club to hang out with friends in the 100 block of Florida Avenue when he was approached by an unknown, armed man who fired at Pratter several times and left the scene. Pratter's friends saw the shooting and were trying to drive him to the hospital, officials said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Detective Jack DiCristofalo at 954-828-6096.
