A Tavernier man is being held without bond for cutting another man on the hand with a box cutter, then trying to throw him in from of a moving ambulance, officials said.
Mark Peto, 48, was drinking with a friend underneath a movie theater at Tavernier Towne Saturday when Peto suddenly attacked his friend, cutting his thumb with a box cutter, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
The victim, who was unidentified, was walking to the hospital to have his thumb treated, when Peto attacked him again, grabbing him around the neck and trying to throw him in front of an ambulance, deputies said. The ambulance was able to swerve around them.
A security guard at Mariner's Hospital was able to pull the two men off each other before deputies arrive.
Peto was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and battery.
