An aspiring rapper was among three people wounded in a shooting in Overtown this weekend, according to the rapper’s mother.

Andre Scott, known to his fans as Young Scrilla, had been in Overtown on Saturday evening to film a music video, the same night someone opened fire. Police cordoned off an area where a car rammed into an Overtown sign.

It was unclear whether the shooting occurred while the music video was being filmed or at some point afterward.

Scott’s mother, Denise Scott, called her son a “good kid” who stays busy recording music and performing at concerts. She said she thinks she knows the reason why the shooting occurred.

“I think it’s a lot of empty-hearted people out here. It’s a lot of jealousy,” she said. “They’re doing it out of spite."

Neighbors near Nineteenth Street and Third Avenue, close to where the shooting happened, said they had noticed a parade of pricey vehicles drive up and down the street earlier in the evening.

The shooting remains under investigation.
